Pet Travel Test
Ensuring a Smooth Journey for Your Pet
Traveling with your beloved pet can be an exciting experience, but it comes with its own set of challenges, especially when it comes to ensuring that your pet meets the health and safety requirements for international travel. Our pet travel test service is designed to make the process easier, ensuring your pet is fully prepared for international travel with all the necessary health certifications.

Why Are Pet Travel Tests Important?
Before traveling, some countries require specific tests to ensure pets are free from diseases and pose no health risks to the local animal population. This includes tests for rabies, parasites, and other infectious diseases. Failure to meet these health requirements can lead to delays, quarantines, or even refusal of entry to your destination country. Our comprehensive testing service ensures your pet has met the necessary standards, minimizing any travel-related issues.
Rabies Antibody Testing (RNATT)
One of the most critical requirements for international pet travel is the Rabies Neutralising Antibody Titre Test (RNATT). Countries like South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, & the US require this test as proof that your pet has sufficient immunity against rabies.
- What is RNATT?
The test measures the level of rabies antibodies in your pet’s blood to confirm that the vaccination has provided adequate protection. The test is commonly performed through Fluorescent Antibody Virus Neutralization method (FAVN). A positive FAVN result (>/= 0.5 IU/mL) indicates an adequate response to the rabies vaccine and protection against rabies (acceptable level of all pet importing countries)
- Key Points to Remember:
- The test must be conducted at an approved laboratory recognized by the country your pet is traveling to.
- To ensure optimum antibody response, it is recommended to allow at least 21 days between the rabies vaccination and the blood sample collection for RNATT.
- Pet importing countries have varying regulations regarding the validity period of rabies titre test results. It’s crucial to verify the specific requirements with your pet relocation agent or authority to ensure the test results will be accepted in your destination country. Planning ahead and understanding the required timeframes is essential to avoid any travel delays or complications.
- A valid rabies vaccination is a prerequisite for conducting the RNATT. Be sure to provide a copy of your pet’s vaccination record clearly showing the validity of the rabies vaccine.
Our team at Pet First will guide you through every step of this process, ensuring that your pet’s blood sample is collected and submitted to an accredited laboratory correctly and promptly.
Additional Serology Tests for International Travel
Aside from rabies, many countries have additional health requirements to ensure the safety of both pets and local populations. Depending on your destination, your pet may need to undergo additional serology tests for diseases such as:
- Brucella canis (canine brucellosis)
- Leishmania (Leishmaniasis)
- Ehrlichia (Ehrlichiosis)
- Babesia canis (canine babesiosis)
- Babesia gibsoni (a variant of canine babesiosis)
- Dirofilaria Immitis (heartworm)
- Leishmania infantum (canine leishmaniasis)
- Leptospira (leptospirosis)
- Trypanosoma evansi (surra)

Each of these diseases can have significant implications for both pets and the human population, and specific tests may be required by your destination country. Our relocation experts at Snoopy Pets will work with you to determine which tests are necessary based on your pet’s travel destination.
