Frequently Asked Questions
Which pets require a fit-to-fly certification?
Pets that need BOAS Fit-to-Fly Assessment Certification prior to travel are brachycephalic breeds that are “high risks” which include:
- English Bulldogs
- French Bulldogs
- Pugs
- Boston Terriers
- Persian Cats
A full IPATA list of the affected breeds can be found here. If your pet belongs to one of these breeds, it’s essential to schedule an assessment well in advance of your travel plans to avoid any last-minute complications.
Can my pet still fly if diagnosed with severe BOAS?
If your pet is diagnosed with severe BOAS, they may be deemed unfit to fly for their safety. Always confirm with your airline about their specific policies on brachycephalic pets and travel arrangements before finalizing your flight details.
How long should I wait after my pet’s rabies vaccination before conducting the RNATT?
To ensure an optimum antibody response, it is recommended to wait at least 21 days after your pet’s rabies vaccination before collecting the blood sample for the Rabies Neutralizing Antibody Titre Test (RNATT). Conducting the test too early may result in insufficient antibody levels, leading to delays in travel approval.
How far in advance should I start planning my pet’s relocation?
It’s recommended to start planning your pet’s transport at least 3 to 6 months in advance, depending on the destination country’s requirements. Some countries require a Rabies Titre Test (RNATT), which has a mandatory waiting period of several weeks. Additionally, obtaining health certificates, vaccinations, permits, and booking pet-friendly flights can take time.
